Issue #3: Your Voice in Action
Dear Joseph,

Much is happening on the state and national levels that require an "all hands on deck" approach.  The Ohio Liberty Council and its coalition of member groups are continuing to fight for the liberty of our children, fellow Ohioans, and all Americans.  In this newsletter you will find important information on what you can do to participate in this battle.  As every Patriot stands up and allows his/her voice to be heard we will become a deafening roar, which must be dealt with. No matter how much our elected officials ignore us, we must continue fighting for the America we know still exists and deeply love.  The term "freedom isn't free" has fresh meaning in our hearts and minds.  In the past we applied it respectfully to our courageous men and women in uniform.  Now we are coming to realize that it is even more encompassing.  Our Founders pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.  Let us pledge to each other that we will work together for this great cause and not waver.  Our children and grandchildren are depending on us.  We consider it an honor to stand beside you.

The Ohio Sentate passes SCR-13. The signatures of over 10,000 Ohioans pushed legislators to consider the State Sovereignty Resolution.

By a vote of 19 in favor and 12 against (along party lines), the Ohio Senate has passed the Ohio Sovereignty Resolution (SCR-13) which claims "sovereignty over certain powers pursuant to the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, to notify Congress to limit and end certain mandates, and to insist that federal legislation contravening the Tenth Amendment be prohibited or repealed."  State Senator Tim Grendell, a co-sponsor of the resolution, asserted "the representatives of the people of Ohio have not only the right, but the responsibility, to question the federal government when it exceeds its Constitutional authority.  We [the General Assembly] are the ones who must act to preserve the delicate balance between federal and state jurisdictions laid forth in our Constitution."

Numerous groups throughout Ohio played a key role in passing SCR-13 and waged a concerted effort to keep the issue front and center on the legislative agenda.  The member groups of The Ohio Liberty Council helped with an Ohio Freedom Alliance, Cincinnati Tea Party, and Cincinnati and Central Ohio 9/12 Project led effort to collect over 10,000 signatures pushing Ohio legislators to consider the State Sovereignty Resolution. The August 1st rally on the front lawn of the State Capitol building in Columbus was also a factor in bringing attention to the importance of a sovereignty resolution.  You can read further about this important resolution on The Ohio Liberty Council's website.

Ohio Patriot Group Leaders Convene in Columbus for Historic Meeting
by Chris Littleton

[Listen to Chris's recent discussion about the meeting with Glenn Beck]

The good, men may do separately, is small compared with what they may do collectively. And, as true as it was when Ben Franklin said it, so it is today.  The Ohio Liberty Council (OLC) met on September 26th with the intention of taking a collective step forward for our great state and nation.  Almost 40 leaders from Ohio's conservative grass roots organizations attended the first OLC leaders meeting in order to define a common strategy for our efforts moving forward. The simple purpose of the OLC is to unite Ohio's grass roots organizations in common cause.  All who have joined the OLC realize that our collective voice must be heard, and only united can we accomplish the end of goal of - changing policy at every level of government.  Read more...

The Ohio Liberty Council Sponsors Town Hall Forum on State Issue 2

The Ohio Liberty Council along with the Ohio Freedom Alliance, Young Americans for Liberty, and the Central Ohio 9/12 Project are sponsoring a town hall debate on State Ballot Issue 2. The forum is open to the public and will take place at Independence Hall, 1923 Neil Avenue on the main campus of The Ohio State University, Monday October 19 at 8:00 p.m.  Issue 2 is a ballot initiative to amend the Ohio Constitution "To create the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board to establish and implement standards of care for livestock and poultry."  The amendment further states that a "bipartisan board of thirteen members to consider factors that include, but are not limited to, agricultural best management practices for such care and well-being, biosecurity, disease prevention, animal morbidity and mortality data, food safety practices, and the protection of local, affordable food supplies for consumers when establishing and implementing standards."

Proponents of Issue 2 say that voting yes on Issue 2 creates the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board to ensure livestock well-being, maintain our food safety, ensure that our locally grown and raised food supply and protect Ohio farms and families.

Opponents of Issue 2 say a new governing bureaucracy will be created with constitutional muscle that will have control over management of all livestock in Ohio. Opponents also claim that a "no" vote on Issue 2 will preserve the liberty of Ohio farmers to raise their own livestock according to their own conscience, and allow consumers choices to buy products raised by practices of which they approve.

The forum will feature a panel of experts representing both sides of the issue.  The town hall portion of the forum will provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the panelists about Issue 2.  Questions can be submitted in advance on The Ohio Liberty Council website.  Click here for more information or to RSVP.

Obamacare

Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee passed the Baucus version of Obamacare. The bill was approved to go to the Senate floor now for more debate and merging with other prior versions of the Obamacare bills on the floor currently.

The actual text and bill will be introduced on the Senate floor within the next two weeks while the work begins at an attempt by the Republicans to interject their idea of an acceptable bill while fighting off the Democrats adding on the public option.

There are no words to describe the frustration the American people are feeling at this point in the fight.  Obviously many of our elected officials have no desire to listen to the public on this vitally important piece of legislation.  However, the debate is NOT OVER.  The House and Senate will have to reconcile and pass their versions for a final bill that will eventually go to Obama for approval and signature into law.  This bill does not yet have the public option.  However, many are concerned that the public option will be attached in the House, as Nancy Pelosi has clearly stated that she will not support any bill that does not have the public option.

Last week, The Ohio Liberty Council had an emergency conference call in which a three phase plan was developed to attempt to put has much pressure as possible on key members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The first phase has been completed.  During this phase all group leaders contacted their members and asked them to sign up for a five minute period of time during normal business hours in which to make calls to Senator Olympia Snowe (R) - Maine and Blanche Lincoln (D) - Arkansas, whose re-elections are considered vulnerable in the future.  Repeatedly we heard of callers reporting that they either received busy signals or full voice mail boxes, which indicated that Americans were burning up the phone lines of these two senators.  Arrogantly, however, both Snowe and Lincoln chose to ignore their melting phones and voted "Yes" to pass the bill out of committee.  We must continue to inundate Snowe and Lincoln and also contact our own Ohio Senators.  If this bill passes the Senate -- and many fear it will -- we must focus our full efforts on the House.  Please try to include visits to your lawmaker's offices to meet with their staff, and send them faxes expressing your views.   Michele Bachmann had a conversation with Glenn Beck on his radio show on Wednesday that emphasizes how important it is for us to keep the pressure on and how WE ARE HAVING AN IMPACT.  Click to listen.

Our elected officials have been surprised by the public outcry against Obamacare.  They haven't heard anything yet!  We will not let up!  We must not let up!  We want to encourage you all to step it up, and don't be discouraged.  Let's make them hear us!

In addition to calling your Senator and Congressperson, plans are being made to strategically protest in front of offices of certain members of Congress.  Please check later at www.OhioLibertyCouncil.org for updates on this phase.

Findlay 912 Mission Statement:
We recognize that without hope we have no chance of changing the course of our country or picking ourselves up and rising out of the ashes as we did on 9.12.

We believe, like our hard working and educated founding fathers, that life like government begins at the family/local level and as such we will inspire hope in our community through participation, education and legislation.

We WILL uphold the Constitution and we will do so by educating ourselves, our families, and those who are willing to learn, by informing them/us about the original intent of our founding fathers and their inspiring documents.

We will not back any political parties or candidates. We will align ourselves at times with other organizations to help with issues at the state and federal level.
