(and other grassroots news bulletins from across the state)

Dear Joseph,

Ohio Issue 2 Voting Resources are Available

OLC BannerWe've received many compliments from folks on the information that was presented and discovered during The Ohio Issue 2 Town Hall Forum that we co-sponsored on October 19.  Thank you to all that attended and to those that have been informing your friends and neighbors about Issue 2.  We need to continue efforts to provide factual information on this important issue as we approach election day.  Hopefully, like the folks that attended the Town Hall Forum, you will find the information in this newsletter helpful in becoming an informed Issue 2 voter on November 3.

So what is Issue 2, anyway?  Issue 2, if passed, will amend the Ohio constitution to create a livestock care standards board appointed by the governor that would set standards for livestock care and food safety in Ohio.  Some believe this is a way to protect Ohio farmers from out of state special interest groups, while others believe this board is a state power grab that could restrict the rights of Ohio farmers.  Both sides of the issue, in addition to a constitutional law expert were represented in our Issue 2 panel on October 19 to answer many tough questions from the audience.  Like the last town hall in Cincinnati at the Voice of America Rally, there weren't any softball questions in this Town Hall!  You would be hard pressed to find a better source of information on Issue 2.  Here's just a sampling of the over two dozen questions that were asked:

Will Issue 2 stop The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) from a ballot initiative in Ohio?

Why an amendment to the Ohio Constitution?

Won't this board be subject to special interests?

If you want to protect choices in our food, why combat Issue 2?

What effect will Issue 2 have on those that raise their own food?

A regulatory board to save us from regulation?

What is this going to cost?

Why let HSUS set the rules instead of a board?

Why should farmers trust this board to represent them?

Will my children be as free under issue 2?

More questions and answers can be found here.

In addition to the clips above, we also have a full length video of the town hall, full length audio, and full text transcripts available. Please share with your family, friends and neighbors so that they can be as informed as you will be on this very important Ohio issue.

We'd like to thank the panelists, Natalie Kee, Dr. Leah Dorman, Tim Wightman, Keith Stimpert, Margaret Anne Ruhl, and Maurice Thompson for contributing their time to participate in the town hall.

P.S. - If you've found this information useful, please consider a donation to help us so that we can continue providing events, tea parties, and town halls like this one in the future.  You can find links to donate at the bottom of this message.
Keeping the Pressure on Against Government Healthcare

OLC BannerHere are the latest updates in our continued fight against Government healthcare.

We called, we wrote, we surrounded him!

The member groups of the Ohio Liberty Council recently kicked off some basic push backs against pending healthcare legislation.

1.  Pressure on Senators in Finance Committee
Tactic: Make calls in groups and shifts for multiple days

Effect:
Phone lines jammed. Voicemails full

Net Result:
Senators to whom pressure was applied still voted for bill (or lack thereof) to come out of committee.

2.  Pressure applied to local Congressman threatening a vote for public option. Local groups chose their own methods respective to their local Congressman.
Tactic: One example of a tactic from Cincinnati Tea Party and Cincinnati 9/12 Project
- For 3 straight days protestors were positioned at just over 20 exits around the Cincinnati metro Interstate Loop, I-275

- They distributed educational information on pending healthcare legislation and displayed signs of protest. Hundreds took part in this effort. Thousands of flyers passed out.

- Saturday, October 24th, protestors surrounded Congressman Steve Driehaus' office in protest of his support for a public option

Effect:
Protest covered  by every television news station, the Cincinnati Enquirer, local talk radio and many, many blogs.

Net Result:
We don't know yet, but we do know they are very concerned. See this Politico Article from Friday: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28651.html

Obviously it doesn't mean the battle is over, but it's a good indicator public option supporters are having trouble in their own camp.

It should extend the timeline, and that means a longer debate. And that's a good thing for everyone!  We need to keep the pressure on.  We need to keep burning up the phone lines.  Keep calling Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich to let them know that any bill with a public option is absolutely unacceptable and nothing must be passed without giving Congress and the general public time to review the bill.

New Book Release: Profit is Not a Dirty Word

OLC Banner Please join us in congratulating Justin Binik-Thomas of the Cincinnati Tea Party and OLC media team in the release of his new book, Profit is Not a Dirty Word: Free Markets and Grassroots Conservatism in America.

This book, Profit is Not a Dirty Word: Free Markets and Grassroots Conservatism in America, will serve as historical documentation of the grassroots conservative movement in America including the Tea Party movement. In many ways, conservatives qualify under the liberal tag line of "pro-choice." We choose liberty. We choose freedom. We choose to protect our families and our country. We trust that people will do the right thing if left to their own devices because people are generally good. We understand that things earned are valuable and things given are often unappreciated.

The book is available at a special pre-order price of $15 through Thursday, October 29.  After that, the price will be $20.  Justin is sharing a portion of the proceeds from sales of this book with the OLC.  All you need to do is choose "Ohio Liberty Council" in the "Pre-Order Organization" list when you order.  Click here to pre-order your copy today.
